FIA FREC heads to Spielberg for the final pre-season test
Preparations continue ahead of the championship opener
Spielberg, 3 April 2026
From Paul Ricard to Red Bull Ring, the FIA Formula Regional European Championship pre-season testing trilogy continues, following its opening stage in late March at the Hockenheimring.
With the curtain set to rise in Spielberg on April 24-26, teams and drivers head straight back on track just four days after the French outing. The Austrian venue provides the final benchmark across Saturday and Sunday before the championship – featuring the all-new Tatuus T-326 – bursts into life with the opening round of an eight-event calendar.
Following two days of testing at Hockenheim, partially disrupted by adverse weather and topped by Norway’s Marcus Saeter (G4 Racing), it was Brazil’s Gabriel Gomez who took the spotlight at Paul Ricard with series newcomer Rodin Motorsport.
Setting the pace in the remaining sessions on the 5.822-kilometre Le Castellet circuit were reigning French F4 champion Alexandre Munoz, making his debut this season with ART Grand Prix, alongside Italian F4 title winner Kean Nakamura-Berta (Prema Racing). Emanuele Olivieri (R-ace GP) emerged as the fastest overall on day two, ahead of teammate Rashid Al Dhaheri.
Following the pre-season test at Spielberg, the series will observe an 18-day break before returning to the same venue for the start of the season.
