AFRICA ECO RACE : UNE PREMIÈRE BOUCLE QUI DEVRAIT FAIRE DES DEGATS

Tout est fait sur l’AFRICA ECO RACE pour minimiser l’impact de l’épreuve sur l’environnement des pays traversés. Pour cela, la mise en place de boucles autour d’un bivouac est une stratégie idéale puisque la caravane du rallye n’a pas à se déplacer. C’était le cas aujourd’hui puisque le départ était donné à 20 km du bivouac installé à Chami avec une arrivée installée à 500 mètres après une spéciale de 453 km. Une première boucle qui devrait faire des dégâts dans les classements, en moto où il manque des waypoints à de nombreux pilotes ou sur quatre roues dont les écarts à l’arrivée sont assez conséquents.

Une fois encore aujourd’hui la bataille a fait rage entre les bicylindres dans la catégorie moto. Mais pour une fois, il manquait un des trois animateurs de la course à l’arrivée. Il s’agit de Pol TARRES qui, suite à des problèmes d’échappement sur sa YAMAHA 700 Ténéré a franchi la ligne d’arrivée près de 13 minutes après son co-équipier Alessandro BOTTURI, le vainqueur du jour.

L’Italien reprend deux minutes à son compatriote Jacopo CERUTTI qui a frôlé la correctionnelle aujourd’hui avec des problèmes de navigation sur la fin du parcours et même une chute, heureusement sans gravité pour lui et son APRILIA 660 Tuareg. Du coup, BOTTURI n’a plus qu’une minute de retard au général sur CERUTTI. Même s’il ouvrira la piste demain, il a pris un certain ascendant sur son adversaire et ami. Derrière, même si Alessandro RUOSO place sa YAMAHA 700 Ténéré en 4ème position devant la BETA de Francesco MURATORI, premier en 450, il est très difficile de connaitre exactement le classement final de l’étape car de nombreux pilotes admettaient avoir louper un des derniers waypoints du parcours. Le Jury moto va donc avoir beaucoup de travail ce soir pour entériner le classement. Un mot pour finir sur Joan GARCIA PEDRERO, le pilote de la HARLEY DAVIDSON PAN AMERICA 1250. L’Espagnol, victime de problème de pompe à essence, a préféré ne prendre aucun risque et a évité les dunes. Il a toutefois rejoint l’arrivée et malgré quelques heures de pénalité, il reste en course

Sur quatre roues, les jours se suivent et se ressemblent pour Pierre-Louis LOUBET et François BORSOTTO puisqu’ils imposent à nouveau leur APACHE aujourd’hui. Une quatrième victoire de spéciale qui leur permet de remonter trois places au général. A ce rythme, le Corse pourrait entrer dans le top 3 avant la fin du rallye :
« Dommage que nous ayons connu un problème le troisième jour car quand tout fonctionne, on se régale. Aujourd’hui, j’attribue notre victoire à François BORSOTTO qui a très bien géré la navigation compliquée sur la fin du parcours. »

L’équipage N°260 relègue le deuxième SSV de Ricardo SOUSA et Jorge BRANDAO à près de 30 minutes. Pourtant les Portugais n’ont pas ménagé leurs efforts sur leur CAN AM, mais en vain. Ils finissent avec une minute d’avance sur le Pick-Up TOYOTA des Belges Pascal FERYN et Kurt KEYSERS, eux-mêmes trois minutes devant les Hongrois Imre VARGA et Jozsef TOMA également sur TOYOTA. La troisième auto est le TOYOTA des Hollandais Teun STAM et René BARGERMAN alors que le troisième SSV est celui des Portugais Rui et Bernardo OLIVEIRA.

Quant aux leaders de la course, Gautier PAULIN et Remi BOULANGER, ils placent leur APACHE en 7ème position à 00:43:20 du scratch. Le vice-champion du Monde de Motocross qui, rappelons-le, participe à son premier Rallye-Tout-Terrain derrière un volant, avouait à l’arrivée avoir eu beaucoup de mal à gérer son état de nervosité suite à une erreur de navigation. En effet, ce champion hors norme a toujours eu l’habitude de voir se jouer des courses à coup de secondes. Il accepte donc difficilement de concéder des minutes, mais il avait tout de même le sourire à l’arrivée et admettait bien volontiers devoir s’habituer à la philosophie de cette nouvelle discipline.

Le premier camion à avoir rejoint Chami est le TATRA de Tomas TOMECEK. Le Tchèque, en solo dans son camion, a devancé d’environ 8 minutes le SCANIA des Hollandais Aad VAN VELSEN, Michel VANVELSEN et Marco SIEMONS et de 45 minutes le GINAF des Belges Cedric FERYN, Bjon BURGELMAN et Tom DE LEUW. En attendant, suite aux problèmes sur cette 7ème étape des différents animateurs du haut de tableau, TOMECEK pointe désormais en 3ème position au général provisoire auto-camion.

Dans la course classique, après une journée off, les choses sérieuses ont repris aujourd’hui avec trois zones de régularité et 149 km à parcourir, or liaisons. Eric et Tom CLAYS sont toujours leaders sur leur TOYOTA BJ73 de 1986. Les Belges devancent le BOMBARDIER Iltis de 1980 de leurs compatriotes René DECLERCQ et John DEMEESTER. L’Autrichien Peter BRABECK-LETMATHE complète le podium, associé au Français Jean Michel GAYTE sur un MITSUBISHI Pajero de 1998.

Demain, mercredi 10 janvier 2024, la caravane de l’AFRICA ECO RACE prendra la direction de l’Est vers le village d’AMODJAR. Une spéciale de 390 km 100% sable qui pourrait être compliquée compte tenu de la chaleur actuelle en Mauritanie qui dépasse allègrement les 30 degrés.

AFRICA ECO RACE: A FIRST LOOP THAT SHOULD DO SOME DAMAGE

Everything possible is being done on the AFRICA ECO RACE to minimise the impact of the event on the environment of the countries it crosses. To achieve this, setting up loops around a bivouac is an ideal strategy, as the rally caravan doesn’t have to move around. This was the case today, with the start 20km from the bivouac of Chami and the finish 500 meters away after a 453km special stage. This first loop should do some damage to the standings, both on the bikes, where many riders are missing waypoints, and on the four-wheelers, where the gaps at the finish are quite substantial.

Once again today, the battle raged between the two-cylinder bikes in the motorbike category. But for once, one of the three race leaders was missing at the finish. It was Pol TARRES who, following exhaust problems on his Yamaha 700 Tenere, crossed the finish line almost 13 minutes after his team-mate Alessandro BOTTURI, the day’s winner.

The Italian clawed back two minutes from his compatriot Jacopo CERUTTI, who came very close today with navigation problems at the end of the course and even a crash, fortunately not serious for him and his APRILIA 660 Tuareg. As a result, BOTTURI is now just one minute behind CERUTTI overall. Even though he will open the track tomorrow, he has gained a certain advantage over his rival and friend. Behind, even if Alessandro RUOSO places his Yamaha 700 Tenere in 4th position ahead of the BETA of Francesco MURATORI, first in the 450 class, it is very difficult to know exactly the final classification of the stage as many riders admitted to having missed one of the last waypoints of the course. The Motorcycle Jury will therefore have a lot of work to do this evening to confirm the standings. Finally, a word about Joan GARCIA PEDRERO, the rider of the HARLEY DAVIDSON PAN AMERICA 1250. Pierre-Louis LOUBET and François BORSOTTO are having similar days on four wheels, as they once again won their APACHE today. It was their fourth stage victory, and one that has enabled them to move up three places in the overall standings. At this rate, the Corsican could be in the top 3 before the end of the rally:

“It’s a shame we had a problem on the third day, because when everything’s working, you’re in for a treat. Today’s victory goes to François BORSOTTO, who handled the complicated navigation at the end of the rally very well”.

The N°260 crew relegated the second SSV of Ricardo SOUSA and Jorge BRANDAO to almost 30 minutes. However, the Portuguese didn’t spare any effort on their CAN AM, but to no avail. They finished one minute ahead of the Pick-Up TOYOTA of Belgians Pascal FERYN and Kurt KEYSERS, themselves three minutes ahead of Hungarians Imre VARGA and Jozsef TOMA also on TOYOTA. The third car was the TOYOTA of Dutchmen Teun STAM and René BARGERMAN, while the third SSV was that of Portuguese drivers Rui and Bernardo OLIVEIRA. As for the race leaders, Gautier PAULIN and Remi BOULANGER, they placed their APACHE in 7th position at 00:43:20 overall.

The runner-up in the Motocross World Championship, who was taking part in his first Rallye-Tout-Terrain behind the wheel, admitted at the finish that he had found it very difficult to manage his nervous state following a navigation error. The Czech, driving solo in his truck, was around 8 minutes ahead of the SCANIA of Dutchmen Aad VAN VELSEN, Michel VANVELSEN and Marco SIEMONS and 45 minutes ahead of the GINAF of Belgians Cedric FERYN, Bjon BURGELMAN and Tom DE LEUW. In the meantime, following problems on this 7th stage for the various leaders at the top of the table, TOMECEK is now in 3rd position in the provisional car-truck general standings.

In the classic race, after a day off, the serious business resumed today with three regularity zones and 149 km to cover, or links. Eric and Tom CLAYS are still in the lead in their 1986 TOYOTA BJ73. The Belgians are ahead of their compatriots René DECLERCQ and John DEMEESTER in their 1980 BOMBARDIER Iltis. Austrian Peter BRABECK-LETMATHE completed the podium, alongside Frenchman Jean Michel GAYTE in a 1998 MITSUBISHI Pajero.

Tomorrow, Wednesday 10 January 2024, the AFRICA ECO RACE caravan will head east towards the village of AMODJAR. The 390km special stage is 100% sand, which could prove complicated given the current heat in Mauritania, which is well over 30 degrees.

AFRICA ECO RACE: UN PRIMO GIRO CHE PROMETTE DI CAUSARE DANNI

Tutto è organizzato nell’AFRICA ECO RACE per ridurre al minimo l’impatto della competizione sull’ambiente dei paesi attraversati. A tal fine, l’organizzazione di circuiti intorno a un bivacco è una strategia ideale, poiché la carovana del rally non deve spostarsi. L’italiano recupera due minuti al suo connazionale Jacopo CERUTTI, che ha rischiato grosso oggi con problemi di navigazione alla fine del percorso e persino una caduta, fortunatamente senza conseguenze gravi per lui e la sua APRILIA 660 Tuareg. Di conseguenza, BOTTURI ha ora solo un minuto di ritardo in classifica generale su CERUTTI. Anche se aprirà la pista domani, ha preso un certo ascendente sul suo avversario e amico. Inoltre, anche se Alessandro RUOSO piazza la sua YAMAHA 700 Ténéré al 4° posto davanti alla BETA di Francesco MURATORI, primo nella categoria 450, è molto difficile conoscere esattamente la classifica finale della tappa, poiché molti piloti ammettevano di aver mancato uno degli ultimi punti di passaggio del percorso. La giuria delle moto avrà quindi molto lavoro stasera per ufficializzare la classifica.

Una parola per concludere su Joan GARCIA PEDRERO, il pilota della HARLEY DAVIDSON PAN AMERICA 1250. Lo spagnolo, vittima di problemi alla pompa del carburante, ha preferito non correre rischi ed ha evitato le dune. Tuttavia, ha raggiunto comunque l’arrivo e nonostante alcune ore di penalità, rimane in gara.

Nel settore a quattro ruote, i giorni si susseguono e si assomigliano per Pierre-Louis LOUBET e François BORSOTTO, che impongono di nuovo il loro APACHE oggi. Una quarta vittoria di tappa che consente loro di risalire di tre posizioni in classifica generale. A questo ritmo, il corso potrebbe entrare nella top 3 prima della fine del rally:

“Peccato che abbiamo avuto un problema al terzo giorno perché quando tutto funziona, ci godiamo la guida. Oggi, attribuisco la nostra vittoria a François BORSOTTO che ha gestito molto bene la navigazione complicata alla fine del percorso.”

Per quanto riguarda i leader della corsa, Gautier PAULIN e Remi BOULANGER, piazzano il loro APACHE al 7° posto a 00:43:20 dallo scratch.

Il vicecampione del mondo di Motocross, che partecipa al suo primo Rally-Raid dietro al volante, ha ammesso all’arrivo di aver avuto molta difficoltà a gestire il suo stato di nervosismo a seguito di un errore di navigazione. Infatti, questo campione eccezionale è abituato a vedere le gare decidere a colpi di secondi. Accetta quindi difficilmente di concedere minuti, ma aveva comunque il sorriso all’arrivo e ammetteva volentieri di doversi abituare alla filosofia di questa nuova disciplina.

Nella corsa classica, dopo una giornata di riposo, le cose serie sono riprese oggi con tre zone di regolarità e 149 km da percorrere, escludendo i collegamenti. Eric e Tom CLAYS sono ancora in testa con la loro TOYOTA BJ73 del 1986. I belgi precedono il BOMBARDIER Iltis del 1980 dei loro connazionali René DECLERCQ e John DEMEESTER. L’austriaco Peter BRABECK-LETMATHE completa il podio, in coppia con il francese Jean Michel GAYTE su un MITSUBISHI Pajero del 1998.

Domani, mercoledì 10 gennaio 2024, la carovana dell’AFRICA ECO RACE si dirigerà a est verso il villaggio di AMODJAR. La prova speciale di 390 km è composta al 100% da sabbia, il che potrebbe rivelarsi complicato visto il caldo attuale in Mauritania, che supera i 30 gradi.
