MXEURO GERMANY Hometown hero Brian Hsu banks fifty

In Motocross

TEUTSCHENTHAL (Germany), 22 June 2014 – For the kids that stood trackside admiring the circuit of Teutschenthal late last year as it hosted what was possibly the greatest Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations to date, this weekend gave them their turn to let it rip around the iconic circuit as they fought to add points to their European Championship EMX125 campaigns.

With this weekend marking round five of the championship, a spanner was thrown in the works with the championship points leader Red Bull KTM Racing’s Davy Pootjes crashing out of race one and dislocating his shoulder. The Dutchman, who had a fifty-seven point lead coming into this weekend, later announced on Twitter that his shoulder had been popped back in and he would try to race today, but after a few laps of warm-up this morning he pulled into the pits due to his shoulder popping out once again. The sixteen year old later told MXGP host Amy Dargan, “I will go and see a specialist tomorrow and come back 100% for the next round in Czech Republic”.

With Pootjes DNF’ing race one, last rounds victor Rockstar Energy Suzuki Europe’s Brian Hsu took full advantage, winning the race to take a twenty-five point chunk out of his arch rivals lead. Meanwhile De Carli KTM’s latest Italian prodigy Joakin Furbetta came home in second ahead of KTM Silver Actions Michael Ivanov in third.

Race two

The gate drop for race two this morning officially deemed war as the little rippers on their 125cc two-strokes went neck and neck around turn one. De Carli KTM’s Joakin Furbetta narrowly led the way ahead of race one winner Rockstar Energy Suzuki Europe’s Brian Hsu and Mafi Yamaha MX Team’s Alvin Ostlund.

With Furbetta throwing scrubs over every hump and jump on the circuit the fans were cheering in admiration. Meanwhile the local hero Hsu was starting to turn up the heat and it wasn’t long before the German made a pass that would stick. Upon taking over the lead, the ‘Brian Hsu Show’ was in full swing as the young local stormed his way to yet another convincing victory for his first perfect score this season.

Meanwhile behind the two front-runners, Hsu and Furbetta, an eternal battle for third was blooming.Diga Racing’s Tomass Sileika had carved his way forward and was all of a sudden hot on the heels of Ostlund. With Sileika showing a wheel at every opportunity, Ostlund knew third place would be no easy feat and after bartering for at least half the race Sileika managed to take the advantage. Refusing to back down, the young Swede Ostlund kept pushing hard chasing the Latvian Sileika all the way to the finish to literally cross the line at the same time.

In the end, it was Hsu who took his home round victory in style ahead of Italian Furbetta. Meanwhile Sileika was the successor in the duel for third, winning by no more than a hair over Ostland. Coming home in fifth Team 200 Energy’s Filippo Zonta charged hard from tenth place for his best result of the season.

Mixing the results from both races, Hsu stood top of the box for the second time in succession, ahead of Furbetta who bagged his best result of the season. Sileika rounded off the podium while Ostlund was forced to settle for fourth. HSF Logistics Motorsport Team’s Max Engelen rounded out the top five.

The next round of the European Championships EMX125 will take place in the Czech Republic on the weekend of July 27. Pootjes holds onto the red plate with Hsu trailing by seven.
