LEON (Mexico), 12 September 2014 – As we embark on the final round of the 2014 FIM Motocross World Championship, we also launched the first ever round of MXGP in Leon. Putting the ‘grand’ in ‘grand finale’, MXGP of Leon offered a warm welcome to its city with a successful opening ceremony that took place at the scenic venue, Parque Miguel Hidalgo, and was followed by a rider signing session in the middle of the huge shopping complex, Plaza Mayor, in Leon, Guanajuato.
With the commencing of the opening ceremony, all the people who have come together to make MXGP of Leon possible, Mr. Giuseppe Luongo, President of Youthstream, Mr Miguel Márquez, Governor of the State of Guanajuato, Mrs. Bárbara Botello, Mayor of León City and Mr. Juan Suberville, President of Rallymex, took to the stage to introduce MXGP of Leon and share their thanks with each other and the hundreds of fans and media who showed up to witness the special occasion.
Following the speeches, more than twenty of the worlds fastest motocross riders were individually introduced to the public before going on to greet and shake hands with the authorities. Once introduced, they did a small parade down the main street on the back of four pick-up trucks kindly supplied by the organizer before heading down to the Plaza Mayor for a signing session.
At the shopping mall, the good vibe was intense. First of all it was amazing to have so many of the worlds fastest motocross riders all at one table, each with a poster and a pen ready to make the days of hundreds of fans. As the hundreds of fans took their posters and smiled with joy, it was obvious how important it is to place the riders in an area where they can interact face to face with their fans. Not only does it promote the event, it also increases public awareness, which is the ultimate goal for not only the riders, but the teams, organizers, promoters and most importantly our sport of motocross.
