Lazzarini tops Salou’s time sheets while series leaders VDB and Chareyre struggle

SALOU (SPAIN), 14 November 2009 – A chill day opened the last Grand Prix of the season held on the Port Aventura wonderful facility and it was Lazzarini topping today’s time sheets while Gozzini was the fastest S2 rider.

In the combined time sheets though Thomas Chareyre was second ahead of Gozzini and Delepine. S1 series leader VDB struggled and ended 16th, feeling now more pressure from runner up Lazzarini, while S2 leader Adrien Chareyre was fifth.

Porfiri won the Open qualifying while in the S3 Hochedez won.

S1

HM Honda Racing’s Lazzarini dominated today’s time practice showing a remarkable pace on the twisty track of Salou. The Italian, who is currently second in the points since his GP win in Ottobiano, battled for most of the session with Husqvarna CH Racing’s Thomas Chareyre. The two snatched the top spot from each other until Lazzarini left his permanent mark.

Other Husqvarna CH Racing’s man Hermunen dropped down to sixth in the combined sheets after a promising start but was third in the S1 ahead of Rigo Racing Suzuki’s Seel, seventh in the combined classification.

Bolsec rounded off the top five of the S1 while Championship leader Van Den Bosch did not get to grips with the track at all. Missing the top five of his category in both free practices, VDB struggled again in the time practice ending ninth in the S1 standings and to start from 16th on tomorrow’s grid.

Having an advantage of 19 points over Lazzarini and 21 points over Thomas Chareyre, VDB is left with a strong chance to collect his fourth World Title.
