Van Den Bosch tops action packed time practice at Ottobiano

OTTOBIANO (ITALY), 24 October 2009 – S1 Championship leader Thierry Van Den Bosch worked his way up to the top of today’s packed time sheets courtesy of a storming last lap.

Previous leader Lazzarini took second ahead of Thomas and Adrien Chareyre, completing tomorrow’s front row in the combined race format including the S1 and S2 classes – today’s first S2 rider was Adrien Chareyre as the remaining three were in the S1 class.

Dall’Era won the Open Qualifying Race as Karanyotov won the S3.

S1

A dramatic time practice session saw series leader VDB of 747 Motorsport TM Factory Racing take the top spot in the time sheets, snatching the record from home rider Lazzarini of HM Honda Racing towards the session’s end.

The latter, who was leading before Van Den Bosch’s arrival, put in one more fast lap improving again but not overtaking the Frenchman.

Thomas Chareyre of Husqvarna CH Racing made up for a difficult start to the session by entering the top three, securing a front row start in the final minutes of the time practice.

Rigo Racing Suzuki’s Eddy Seel was the most disappointed man on track at the end of the day. The Belgian missed out on his first front row start of the season after a late charge from the opposition dropped him off the top four of the combined classification. Eventually Seel was fourth in the S1 standings but led for the early stages.

Verderosa completed the top five ahead of Hermunen.

S2

Adrien Chareyre worked his way through today’s time sheets and was an eventual fourth in the combined standings and first in the S2 standings.

The S2 series leader struggled during this opening day but managed to get his troubles sorted at the time practice, moving up to the top of the standings.

Home rider Gozzini instead had a tougher day, ending second in the S2 with a gap of 0.358 seconds from Chareyre. The 747 Motorsport TM Factory Racing man sits in second in the points standings and needs to make up ground on Chareyre to face the final round in Spain with a solid Title chance.

Husqvarna Cross 2R’s Delepine was fourth and is pumped after his first season’s win from last weekend in Greece.

Gaspardone and Occhini rounded off the S2 top five.

On the other hand it was a tough debut in the S2 series for American Burkhart ending with a gap of 2.3 seconds from Chareyre.

S2 Qualifying top ten: 1. Adrien Chareyre (FRA, Husqvarna), 1:12.001; 2. Davide Gozzini (ITA, TM), +0:00.358; 3. Gérald Delepine (BEL, Husqvarna), +0:00.613; 4.
